Joe Rogan Reveals The Amount of Money Jon Jones Wants to Fight Tom Aspinall
Going into the new calendar year all MMA fans have the same question, Will Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall happen?
Jones made his long awaited return to the UFC octagon in November to defend his heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic. A fight that many fans did not want to see. The fight was billed as a legacy fight and one that had to be made. By all means if the fight was made many years ago it would have been legacy defining and a gripping event. However, given the circumstances of Miocic being 41 years of age and his last appearance being a devastating knockout loss 3 years prior the fight felt unnecessary particularly as there was an interim champion in waiting. That interim champion being England’s own Tom Aspinall.
Aspinall won the belt in mightily impressive fashion back in 2023. The original fight between Jones and Miocic was postponed due to a severe Jones injury. So up stepped the Englishman on two weeks notice to take on the back up fighter Sergei Pavlovich. The terrifying Russian was already training for the event as he was backup for the championship fight. On a six fight first round knockout streak Pavlovich was one of the most impressive fighters on the UFC roster. The finish was sensational as Aspinall clipped Pavlovich in the first round and knocked out the knockout machine in seconds. After that fight fans asked the UFC to scrap the original bout and make Jones vs Aspinall. The UFC remained adamant that the legacy fight had to play out therefore leaving Aspinall high and dry.
$30 Million for Jones?
The esteemed podcast host and UFC presenter Joe Rogan has recently revealed the amount of money Jon Jones is rumoured to be asking for from the UFC for a Tom Aspinall unification bout. On his multi award winning podcast he stated “The rumour is he wants 30 Million Dollars” Quote from Joe Rogan Experience Channel.
Unfortunately for the UFC Jones has a great negotiating position. He is in many people’s eyes the greatest of all time and his legacy is assured within the sport. Fight week for UFC 309 was flooded with questions about Aspinall for Jones and at points he refused interviews.
In the post fight press conference Jones made it abundantly clear he is no fan of Aspinall, he said that “Tom Aspinall is an a**hole and I don’t want to do business with him.” Furthermore he’s said numerous time she wants “F*** you money” to take the fight. The bout itself would be the biggest heavyweight fight in UFC history and the UFC have got to do everything in their power to make the fight. Whether that possibly means getting Turki Alalshikh involved putting the fight on one of his huge Riyadh Season events.
