After eight years away from the sport of MMA following a KO loss to Dong Hun Kim in China, England’s John Hathaway has made a surprise return to competition.
After being teased by MMA reporter Nolan King, it’s now official that once UFC prospect John Hathaway will soon return to competition. OKTAGON MMA revealed on Twitter that the 35-year-old had penned a multi-fight deal with the promotion.
A serious illness reportedly kept John out for almost a decade, but he was all smiles in the recently released announcement post and looks set for big challenges in the cage.
“Hey guys I’m finally back, I’ve signed a multi-fight deal with the show OKTAGON. I’ll be fighting on October 15th in Frankfurt, Germany.” Hathaway said.

Hathaway’s Career Before The Lay-Off
John Hathaway emerged on the British regional MMA scene when he made his pro debut in 2006. He racked up finish wins on shows such as Cage Rage and ZTFN, as 3 back-to-back TKO wins in 2008-2009 were enough to punch him a ticket in the UFC.
He began his UFC career perfectly with a TKO win over Tom Egan in Dublin. ‘The Hitman’ seemed to be beating everyone put in front of him as he went on to bag decision wins against Rick Story, Paul Taylor and Diego Sanchez.
A small bump in the road came with a unanimous decision loss to Mike Pyle. However, Hathaway went on to get another 3 wins for himself against Kris McKray, Pascal Krauss and John Maguire.
John’s next fight would be his last in the UFC, a devastating spinning back elbow KO loss Dong Hyun Kim in Macau.
