Johnny Eblen defeated Fabian Edwards at Bellator Dublin last Saturday. The American fighter won by TKO. After the fight, he had a minor altercation with the current UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards. Many people have been discussing the argument and speaking to Ariel Helwani; Eblen revealed his side of the Leon Edwards scuffle.
Johnny Eblen Vs Fabian Edwards
Eblen continued his impressive form as he dominated his planned fight with Leon’s brother, Fabian. Eblen demonstrated his wide skill set in front of an excited Irish crowd. The battle ended when Eblen caught Edwards with a huge shot that dropped the challenger and followed it up with some vicious ground and pound, leaving the referee no choice but to step in. After the contest, Eblen, was understandably fuelled by adrenaline. Something which didn’t sit quite right with Leon Edwards, momentarily causing the two to exchange words with one another.
Eblen On Leon Edwards
Many people in the aftermath were accusing Eblen of spitting at Leon. Though, when speaking on the MMA Hour, Eblen cleaned up those rumours and said he will support Edwards in December as the Englishman looks to defend his title against Colby Covington at UFC 296.
“No, I did not; what had happened was I was fired up, I was talking sh*t, I probably shouldn’t have.” Johnny Eblen stated, recapping his post-fight confrontation with Leon Edwards. “I should have been a good sport. I should have just walked away and let my fists do the talking, but I can’t exactly remember what I was saying at the beginning… When I watched it back, and I was like, I could see how someone could think that I did, but I was just yelling at him.”
He continued, “I mean, okay, sure, he can think whatever he wants. Yeah, I don’t know, but I’m sorry that he thinks that I did that. I just got a little too heated and was yelling at him. After the fact, I got to sit down and gather myself and then go over to them and squash it because I feel like we both hate Colby, so I hope he beats Colby.”
Johnny Eblen and Leon Edwards seem to have buried the hatchet, for now, at least. However, with rumours circulating about what is next for Bellator and a narrative to sell… Do not be surprised if we see Leon Edwards and Johnny Eblen come face-to-face, once more.
