Whilst the top of the main card for UFC 294 has changed a lot, Johnny Walker vs Magomed Ankalaev might be the most underrated fight.
This fight got over shadowed by the two big changes to the main and co main event. Islam Makhachev was suppose to defend his belt in a rematch to whom he taken the belt from, Charles Oliveira. Oliveira got headbutted and a huge cut opened up over his eye which forced him to pull out. Alexander Volkanovski dared to be great and will step in to get avenge his loss to Makhachev. Equally, Khamzat Chimaev and Paulo Costa were suppose to face off in the co main. Costa got elbow surgery and needed a second one so the doctors put a stop to that. In comes Kamaru Usman. Former welterweight champion moves up a weight class to challenge what some may call the boogie man of the UFC.
Johnny Walker Magomed Ankalaev Called off
Round 1: Both fighters exchanged leg kicks early in the fight, with Ankalaev landing the biggest shot early. Halfway through the round, Magomed landed what looked to be a huge body shot that stunned Walker, who countered with a flying knee. Ankalaev then took the back and put on immediate pressure against the cage. Against the cage Magomed landed an illegal knee which resulted in the fight being called off by the doctor.
For Ankalaev it’s his second fight which has now ended in controversy. With his split draw against Jan Blachowicz
Official result: No contest due to unintentional illegal knee.
