UFC commentator Jon Anik voiced his concern on the current state of judging within mixed martial arts.
Over the last several weeks, the community has been appalled at the judges’ questionable decisions. The inconsistency varies from the UFC to Bellator and further afield.
The main culprit, Doug Crosby, has been at the frontline of the recent criticism by fans, analysts, and fellow fighters after his scorecard on Paddy Pimblett’s recent win over Jared Gordon at UFC 282.
The rash decisions are becoming a weekly occurrence in the sport, and the judges still face no repercussions time and time away.
Anik, who has been the voice behind the booth for the UFC for years, recently revealed his own thoughts by Tweeting about the current situation.
Jon Anik Reveals Thoughts on MMA Judging
“I’m not sure the state of MMA judging has ever been worse, quite frankly. I’m looking forward to getting back to Vegas next year to have some conversations…”
Anik also responded to a critic who questioned his desire to change the judging system in MMA, adding:
“Respectfully, this is wicked insulting. I’ve spent dozens of hours speaking with commissioners, referees, judges, and scoring experts over the last two years and dedicated a ton of time to this on @AnikFlorianPod . Didn’t say I can 100% effect change but I can be heard.”
Anik, like the fans, is extremely frustrated by the ongoing issue the sport faces with incompetent judging. The fighters are losing out on money, moving forward in their career and potential sponsors when being wrongly screwed over.
What do you make of the whole judging saga? Do you think things will change in the near future?
