During the lead-up to UFC 285 where Jon Jones returns to fight for the heavyweight title, Jon’s had many questions to answer during his pre-fight press conference. One of which involved Conor McGregor where Jon Jones would heap praise on the Irishman.
This weekend the vacant heavyweight title is on the line, with Jones fighting Ciryl Gane in a main event for the ages. 3 years ago Jones defend his belt against Dominic Reyes which he arguably lost in the eyes of some fans and media. However, he was successful. In the following months after that defence a pandemic overtook the sporting world and Jones took that time to make his move. His move to heavyweight has been over 10 years in the making, as he referenced a move up in 2013 on Twitter.
Jones’s Words About McGregor
Jones spoke very fondly of McGregor after McGregor was seemingly absent from Jones’ top all-time MMA fighters list.
However, he had only positivity towards the Irish superstar, stating.
“There’s only one Conor McGregor, I love Conor,” Jones said. “I love what he represents, man.”
“He’s big, he’s big, he’s a gigantic brand. Some say he’s just as big as our sport.”
“It’s going to be great. It’s going to be great when he comes back. He’s going to bring a whole new energy, even more fans.”

Jones then goes on to wish McGregor the best of luck in his match-up with Michael Chandler during the filming of their season of TUF.
“It’s great for all of us, it’s great for the sponsors, it’s great for the UFC.”
“I wish Conor all the best, I love the way he’s lived his life. I never thought that in my time we’d see an MMA fighter with a yacht but he’s done it and I’m so proud of him.”
“It opens doors for all of us and it lets young fighters know that it’s possible, you know, there’s great business outside of this sport, there’s life-changing opportunity outside of this sport, and I’m so grateful to him for being that example for all of us.”

McGregor’s Impending Return
McGregor is currently filming a new season of ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ against Michael Chandler. Having not fought since July 2021 due to snapping his lower leg during his grudge match with Dustin Poirier. Having McGregor coach TUF was a stroke of genius for the UFC as it eases McGregor back into the swing of things and hopefully being around the young and hungry fighters rubs off on him a little.
