The MMA community is currently up in arms about Jon Jones refusing to fight Tom Aspinall and a former UFC heavyweight star has come to Jon Jones’s defence. The former contender is adamant that everything is not as it seems.
Brendan Schaub Defends Jon Jones Over Accusations
This weekend, Jon Jones will put his title on the line against former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic. This fight will be at UFC 309 at Madison Square Garden, New York, USA in one of the most controversial match-ups in MMA history.
The challenger Stipe Miocic is undeniably a legend in the sport, however, he has not fought since losing to Francis Ngannou several years ago. This being the case and Tom Aspinall being on the rise, fans are understandably fuming at this match-up.
However, if Jon Jones was willing to give the fans the match-up they want to see if he can successfully defend his belt this weekend, then the MMA community may cut him some slack. However, for one reason or another, in various different interviews, he’s flat-out refused to fight the dangerous Brit.
Regardless, the former heavyweight contender Brendan Schaub has his back. Brendan claims Jon Jones is smart and doesn’t have to do anything he doesn’t want to do. On his YouTube channel Thiccc Boy the former contender said;
‘I’m not worried about Tom, I’ll fight Alex’ ― that builds this narrative. It’s the Real Housewives of the UFC. It’s a soap opera, that’s all it is.”
“It’s not on Jon to help Tom get more famous in the space. Tom needs Jon; Jon doesn’t need anybody. He can do whatever he wants; he’s earned that right. Figure it out.”
Jones Could Have Injured His Toe Ahead of UFC 309
While past the peak of his powers, Stipe Miocic possesses ferocious power, meaning Jon Jones, simply can’t afford to underestimate him. Realising this, it appears the New Yorker is going above and beyond in training camp, recently posting a sharp training footage to his Instagram. This has since prompted a positive response from his fans. One of his fans said;
“I just can’t see how Stipe wins”,
While another fan posted;
“Jon Jones is looking fierce, with less than two weeks to go until UFC 309, and he’s clearly ready to put on a show!”
However, eagle-eyed fans have noticed something may be wrong with the legend heading into this fight. There appears to be a bandage on at least one of his toes on his left foot. This has given MMA enthusiasts the belief that Jon Jones could be debilitated. This could be opening the door for the former champion to upset. Noticing the potential injury for Jon Jones, one fan commented;
“Is his toe a balloon?”
Thinking of tactics, a supporter of the heavyweight champion suggested;
“Stamp on that toe, Stipe.”
While another fan remembered that this wouldn’t be the first time Jon Jones has suffered an injury to his toe. The fan commented by saying;
“Is he still recovering from the Chael Sonnen fight?”
