On the heels of Alex Pereira’s main event victory at UFC 300, Jon Jones reacted on X to the viral KO. In the UFC 300 Main Event, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion cemented his first title defense with a left handed KO on former champ Jamahal Hill in the 1st round.
Jon Jones Reacts to Alex Pereira UFC 300 Knockout
At the conclusion of the main event, Pereira took to the mic and mentioned he is fresh to return on UFC 301 in his home country Brazil. While he was doubtful of the timeline coming to fruition, Pereira dropped a new hint of what he might want next. The former UFC Middleweight champion and current Light Heavyweight champion teased at looking towards a bout at Heavyweight.
On X, the current Heavyweight Champion chimed in on his thoughts:
Jones’ reaction to the KO finish was the initial response. However, in the past few days, Jones has been fielding questions on what he expects to come from this Pereira Heavyweight mention.
Jon Jones Reacts to Upcoming Fights
Jon Jones reacted to a fan’s question on where he currently stands now that a new challenge has presented itself. Jones is currently recovering from a torn pectoral injury. The injury pushed back a previously scheduled bout against the Heavyweight GOAT Stipe Miocic. Jones vs. Miocic has the expectation of being a top box office draw with the two divisional GOATs looking to square off. The 42 year old Miocic is being patient as his career winds down for this big payday and legacy opportunity.
Jones was quizzed that this Miocic fight at this stage in his career might not do the same as a fight vs. Pereira or others. Jon Jones reacted on the matter seemingly shutting down this notion.
Jones Sticking With Miocic
Despite the immediate intrigue of the callout, Jones looks committed to maintaining the fight with former champ Miocic. For Pereira, the Glory Kickboxer made his UFC debut in 2021 before capturing the Middleweight Gold in 2022. After losing the title in 2023 to Israel Adesanya, “Poaton” moved to the 205 division. In three fights, Pereira has defeated 3 former Light Heavyweight Champions in Jan Blachowicz, Jiri Prochazka, and Jamahal Hill.
While Pereira looks for an entrance into a 3rd MMA division for Gold, Jones is looking to recover and return against the original opponent. Citing Miocic’s patience on waiting for the fight itself, Jones is looking to honor the agreement with Miocic for now. Additionally, in his post-fight presser, UFC President Dana White began to shut down this notion.
Jon Jones’ reaction to the KO holds true, but a future with Poatan is a brand new option on his radar. Will we see Pereira vs. Jones? Or will Pereira continue at 205 as Jones hones in on Miocic?
