UFC London took place this Saturday with a crucial heavyweight bout serving as the main event. England’s own Tom Aspinall took on Poland’s Marcin Tybura in the feature bout. Aspinall was able to secure a quick KO in just 73 seconds, following the performance with a callout of the winner of Cyril Gane vs. Sergei Spivac. After beating the winner of that fight, Aspinall plans to beat heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Tom Aspinall Calls Out Jon Jones
“I’m gonna go to Paris, I’m gonna be sat front row. I’m gonna beat the winner, then I’m gonna beat Jon Jones.”
Jones was quick to reply to Aspinall’s callout on Twitter:
“Sounds good lol”
Jon Jones is coming off a 1st round-submission win over Cyril Gane at UFC 285 in March. Jones is scheduled to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 295 in a super fight between two of the greatest of all time. Jones’ future after the Miocic bout is in question, however, a fight against Aspinall would surely bring many viewers as the first heavyweight title fight between the USA and England in the history of the promotion.
Tom Aspinall’s UFC resumé includes wins over Alexander Volkov, Sergei Spivac, Andrei Arlovski, and now Marcin Tybura. Aspinall has long called for a fight with Jones, and another win over a top contender would surely secure Aspinall a title shot. No matter who Aspinall fights next, he’s proven that his injury is behind him and that he’s back to cause havoc.
If Jones doesn’t retire following his fight against Stipe Miocic, Aspinall could be waiting as next in line. Sergei Pavlovich has also staked his claim to a title shot with 6 first-round KOs in a row. Pavlovich could potentially take the next shot or provide an intriguing matchup for Aspinall next.
