Jon Jones could make his highly anticipated heavyweight debut before the end of the year.
As reported by Ariel Helwani, the UFC are in talks with Jones for a possible heavyweight matchup with Stipe Miocic at UFC 282 in Las Vegas.
“If they can get Jones x Miocic done, that’ll be the UFC 282 main,” Helwani Tweeted. “If not, the main will be Prochazka x Teixeira 2. And if they can’t get Jones x Miocic done for 12/10, they’ll set their sights on doing Ngannou x Jones in March, if Ngannou re-signs. Developing.”
Negotiations are currently in the early stages. As it stands, the fight booking is a long way from being finalised.
Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic for UFC 282?
If the fight does come to fruition, it will mark the first time Jones has been in the Octagon in just under three years. His last outing saw him defeat Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision accumulating his eleventh title defence. Shortly after, Jones vacated his light-heavyweight title in order to pursue a move to heavyweight.
Fans were aware it would take time for Jones to develop and gain mass to compete with the heavyweights. Perhaps not three years. The 35-year-old also encountered major complications with the UFC in regard to money and being paid his worth to take on the heavyweight division.
Time doesn’t slow down for anybody, especially Jon Jones. Who many believe is the greatest of all time, Jones, doesn’t have much time to waste sidelined if he is to further his incredible legacy in the sport.
Miocic has also been out for some time after suffering a brutal KO loss against Francis Ngannou last March. Prior to that, Miocic defeated Daniel Cormier back-to-back after losing the pairing’s first meeting.
If the fight is to materialise fans are in for a treat at UFC 282. Also featuring on the card is a light-heavyweight title rematch between Jiri Prochazka and Glover Teixeira. Closing the last pay-per-view of the year out in style.
