Francis Ngannou Reacts to Jon Jones’ Victory Over Stipe Miocic
Francis Ngannou wasted no time reacting to Jon Jones’ dominant win over Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. The former UFC heavyweight champion took to social media to congratulate Jones on defending his title with a third-round knockout at Madison Square Garden.
Ngannou, who famously knocked out Miocic to claim the UFC heavyweight belt in 2021, remains a figure fans want to see face Jones. Despite leaving the UFC to join the PFL, the possibility of a super fight between the two continues to captivate fans.
Ngannou’s Social Media Reaction to Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic
Following Jones’ impressive victory, Ngannou tweeted his praise.
“Jones looked great out there tonight. Congrats Jonny boy. I see you.”
This simple but loaded message keeps the door open for a potential clash between the two heavyweight stars, a fight that has been discussed for years but has yet to materialize.
Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic The Road to UFC 309
Jon Jones solidified his place in MMA history with another dominant performance. After claiming the heavyweight title earlier this year with a submission victory over Ciryl Gane, Jones returned to Madison Square Garden to face Miocic. Despite Miocic’s legacy as a two-time champion, the 42-year-old struggled to keep up with Jones’ speed and power.
The fight ended decisively in the third round when Jones landed a spinning back kick, followed by ground and pound, to secure the finish.
While fans continue to call for the heavyweight super fight, UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping expressed doubts about its likelihood. Bisping believes the UFC is unlikely to cross-promote with the PFL, where Ngannou is now signed.
Will We See The Fight?
“I don’t think it’s gonna happen,” Bisping said in an interview. “I understand that money talks, and maybe some gigantic amount of money appears from one of the parties in Saudi Arabia and maybe that gets the deal done.”
However, Bisping highlighted the potential downside for the UFC.
“In terms of business, if it [the UFC] was my organization that I’d built for 30 years… who stands to gain more there? The PFL. The PFL then are held in the same regard as the UFC.”
Jon Jones’ Future Plans
While Jones teased retirement before UFC 309, he confirmed after the fight that he’s sticking around for more. Potential matchups with light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira and interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall have been mentioned as possibilities.
For now, Ngannou remains a wildcard in the heavyweight picture. Earlier this year, Ngannou hinted that a cross-promotional fight with Jones could happen in 2025, but significant hurdles remain.
