Jon Jones Reveals the One Thing Tom Aspinall Did to Annoy Him
After successfully defending his heavyweight title at UFC 309, Jon Jones has shed light on why Tom Aspinall has gotten under his skin. Despite fans clamoring for a clash between the reigning champion and the interim belt holder, Jones didn’t hold back when explaining what irritates him most about Aspinall’s antics.
Jon Jones Calls Out Tom Aspinall’s Trash Talk
At the UFC 309 post-fight press conference, Jones shared his frustrations about Aspinall’s approach to promoting a potential fight:
“Coming up with Jon Jones t-shirts, buying a little duck, just the little s**t that he does. He’s annoying to me,” Jones said.
While some fans find Aspinall’s behaviour entertaining, Jones sees it differently:
“I get to you guys, you find it entertaining, but I find him annoying. I just don’t like him,” he added.
For Jones, Aspinall’s playful jabs and trash talk have crossed the line. The heavyweight champion also made it clear that if a fight with Aspinall does happen, he expects to be well-compensated:
“At the end of the day, if I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be so compensated, I’m gonna say it, I want that ‘f**k you’ money, honestly,” Jones declared.
Tom Aspinall has been vocal about wanting a shot at Jon Jones, and his actions have kept him in the headlines. From wearing custom t-shirts mocking Jones to using a toy duck as a jab at Jones’s perceived avoidance, Aspinall has leaned heavily into mind games.
However, Jones seems unfazed in terms of feeling pressured to take the fight:
“My life is perfect without him; I don’t need him at all. He needs me, and that’s a good place to be in a negotiation,” Jones said confidently.
Fans Anticipate a Heavyweight Showdown
Despite Jones’s frustrations, the prospect of a fight with Aspinall has captured the imagination of MMA fans. Aspinall, who has dismantled top contenders in the division, is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous challengers for Jones.
At UFC 309, Aspinall was seated cage side to witness Jones’s third-round victory over Stipe Miocic. While Miocic showed flashes of his legendary skills, his age and time away from the sport were evident, leaving fans to wonder if Aspinall represents a more formidable threat.
Aspinall’s Encounter with the Jones Family
Adding to the drama, Aspinall had an interesting interaction with Jones’s brothers, both NFL Super Bowl champions, while attending UFC 309. Although details of their exchange remain light, it further highlights the intrigue surrounding the potential matchup.
Jones’s dominance at UFC 309 reaffirmed his status as the heavyweight king, but the spectre of a fight with Aspinall continues to loom large.
