Jordan McIntyre has one thing on his mind leading into his April 15th clash with AJ Davy, and that’s war.
McIntyre is set to defend his strawweight title against AJ Davy in the Barnsley Metrodome at Badamofo 5, who he previously defeated by decision on his way to claiming the title last year.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Jordan McIntyre ahead of BMF 5 this Saturday. Read the full exclusive below.
Interview With Jordan McIntyre
One week out from jumping back into the firing line. How have things been since picking up the BMF strawweight title in 2022?
Things have been great. I’ve been putting in a lot of hard work to maintain my title and can’t wait to put on a show on April 15th.
Can you put into words what winning the title meant to you at such an early stage in your amateur career? Or are you one of those guys that put’sput’s the past in the past and just want to move forward?
It means a lot to me as there’s no one really in this division as it’s hard to find guys at strawweight and to come back with a title made me become more hungry to step it up as champion.
Talk us through the mindset and preparation when you went through the tournament to be crowned the champion. Two wins in one night is a tough ask, given the relentlessness of the sport. What was your honest feeling about the whole process?
I was nervous going into this tournament as I didn’t know what to expect from both fighters, but I kept a strong positive mindset to get the win.
Jordan McIntyre Talks Previous Fight With AJ Davy
In the tournament format, preparing for several possible opponents must be a headache. How nice is it to just be prepping for one opponent this time around in AJ Davy, a man you’ve beaten before?
I feel more prepared this time around as it’s just AJ Davy I am preparing for, and we fought last year, so this time around, I’llI’ll be a lot fresher and sharper.
Strawweight’sStrawweight’s not often a division we see for the males in the UK scene. How pleased are you with BMF putting the division together, and do you think other shows should follow suit?
It feels great to be given the opportunity to fight in this division, and I think it’s a good idea for more shows to have this weight class.
As mentioned, your opponent on April 15th is a man you beat last year by decision. What are your overall thoughts on him as an opponent, and has been in there with him once before? Does that give you a lot of comfort and confidence knowing you know the answers to a lot of questions?
AJ Davy is a well-rounded fighter, he has a lot of skills, and he’s a warrior, but I know that this time round, it will be a war, and I’llI’ll be a lot fresher, so this gives me the confidence to get another win.
The Rematch
AJ Davy was unsuccessful last time out in his approach to beat you. What do you think he does differently this time around?
I think AJ Davy will come out technical and try to get the finish early.
You always proudly fly the Scottish flag high ahead and post-battle. What does it mean to you to be representing your country on shows like BMF down in England?
It means a lot to represent my country by doing what I love.
Expectations
What can your supporters expect to see from you on fight night? Can the travelling support expect a finish this time round?
To my supporters watching, expect fireworks because this will be a war, and I’ll be coming back with a finish.
I’ll leave you with the last word. Any last message for your opponent or any sponsors you’d like to thank?
Firstly I just want to thank BMF for putting me on the show, also want to thank my coach, teammates and family for all the support, and lastly, I want to say good luck AJ Davy and I’ll see you April 15th can’t wait.
