Jordan McIntyre goes from strength to strength following his first round submission over AJ Davy at Badmofo MMA 5 on Saturday past.
The fight marked the second time McIntyre has shared the octagon with Davy and the second time he’s left with his hand raised. However, Saturday night unfolded slightly different to the first meeting.
In the pairs first fight, the Scottish-native was able to close out a victory on the judges scorecards, but this time, a first-round submission victory displayed McIntyre’s development since their first meeting.
We had the pleasure to catch up with Jordan McIntyre post-fight. Check out what he had to say below.
Interview With Jordan McIntyre
Now that the dust has settled, you successfully defend the BMF strawweight title. How are you feeling?
I am feeling great, I wanted to stay in there a bit longer, but we had a game plan to finish him either by ground and pound or by submission in any round possible, and it just felt right to do it when I had the opportunity to go for it.
You said you expect a war pre-fight. Instead, you latched onto a first-round finish. You’ll take that all day, right? How pleased are you with your performance for as long as it lasted?
Yeah, I mean, I would’ve liked it to be a war and make the fans be amazed at my skill level, but yeah, getting that finish that early into the round was even better, and I am very pleased with my performance.
That’s the second time you’ve faced and defeated AJ. Last time you went to the scorecards. Does finishing him this time a testament to the development of your own skill set now?
Yeah, I’ve improved on so many levels now that I have been in the cage. My confidence has gone up and will keep going up as the more I step into the cage but last time, I wasn’t fully fresh going into the AJ fight as I had already fought Toff and got bruised ribs, but I knew I could finish him as I was just too strong for him and it showed on Saturday night.
McIntyre Talks Travelling Support
It looked as if you had a lot of support in Barnsley. How motivating is that for you to have friends and family make a long trek there?
It’s very motivating as it creates a great atmosphere, but I know they support me whether they are there or not, and I am very grateful for that.
Finally, I know you’re probably enjoying food and some downtime. What’s next? Are you seeking the July BMF show, or would you like a run out before that?
I will see where the next few weeks take me. I’m hoping to try to move up a weight class eventually.
