Following Leon Edwards attaining the welterweight UFC strap at UFC 278 this Saturday past, Jorge Masvidal crops up, calling for the match-up.
Edwards put the division on notice handing the pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman his first loss in the UFC, as well as his first loss by knockout. Usman was cruising his way to victory, and with 60-seconds on the clock, Edwards landed a life-changing head kick that would see his shin crumble the champion to unconsciousness.
The Birmingham native’s name has always been attached to Masvidal after the American Top Team representative assaulted Edwards backstage at UFC London in 2019. The newly crowned champion did let on that he would be eager to present Masvidal with a title fight if he was to leave Salt Lake City, Utah, with the victory.
Masvidal responded by sharing on his Instagram story that he would see Edwards in London.

In the story, Masvidal also displayed the famous “three-piece and a soda” which came from the altercation with Edwards in London. The two have been destined to share the Octagon with one another since. The pairing were set to clash in December 2021, but Masvidal was forced to withdraw due to an injury.
Considering Masvidal is riding a three-fight skid to Kamaru Usman, who he challenged twice for the title, and Colby Covington, it wouldn’t make sense for the 37-year-old to be granted the next crack at Edwards. With one, or two wins, the conversation can begin if Edwards still holds gold.
White confirmed that the next logical move would be to run the trilogy between Edwards and Usman. The pair sit at one-a-piece.
Do you think we will see Edwards vs. Masvidal inside the UFC Octagon or has the ship sailed?
