Jorge Masvidal appears to have made yet another call for a fight with MMA superstar Conor McGregor.
The former “Champ-Champ” had not fought since July 2021, when he suffered a devastating injury in his bout with Dustin Poirier. Jorge Masvidal is also coming off of a loss earlier this year. McGregor’s name still holds a lot of value in today’s pay-per-view world, so Masvidal has brought some of his own value to the table.
Jorge Masvidal Increases His Offer
On social media, Masvidal and McGregor have been at each other’s throats for a long time. They were originally rumoured to fight as far back as 2019, but that was quickly shut down by Dana White. He insisted that Masvidal, as a welterweight, would be too big for “The Notorious”, a natural lightweight. McGregor bounced back from this claim with a TKO victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone, at 170 pounds, no less. Because “Cowboy” was also a natural lightweight, the discussion was thrown to one side while the Irishman prepared for a pair of bouts with Dustin Poirier in 2021.
In the time between those fights, Jorge Masvidal had twice challenged Kamaru Usman’s welterweight championship off the back of his surging popularity. Although he came up short, he remains popular with the fan base. Recently, “Gamebred” has also suffered a decision loss to roommate-turned-rival Colby Covington.
Both fighters are riding some tough losses and would need a solid win to showcase themselves. In Masvidal’s mind, this is the fight to make for that platform. As a bonus, he is even willing to put his custom-made BMF belt, and a multi-million dollar bet up for grabs.
“I’d bring out the BMF belt only for a bad motherfu**er and some cash money… You a bad motherfu**er and you got some money? Let’s get a little escrow going, you know?”
Masvidal has suggested both men put “a couple million” in an escrow, with the winner receiving that alongside the BMF belt. “So it’s there, you know, but it has to be right. It has to be under my rules and stipulations, and with that belt, I’m like a f***ing tyrant.”
The decision now lies with McGregor’s team and the UFC matchmakers on whether or not they accept this offer.
