Former UFC fan favourite Jorge Masvidal has set pulses racing with not-so-subtle hints of a return to the cage in the near future.
Masvidal’s storied career came to a somewhat bittersweet end when he suffered defeat at the hands of Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. It seems ‘Gamebred’ is looking to right some wrongs following the four-fight losing streak that led to his retirement in April 2023.
The fires surrounding a possible comeback for the 39-year-old were first stoked when ‘Gamebred’ took to X in the early hours of January 2nd, with the single word ‘Unretired’ sparking widespread discussion around the former contender’s return to the octagon.
Is Jorge Masivdal Looking for a UFC Return?
Since then, it seems Jorge Masvidal may have more violent plans afoot than first thought. Speaking in a recent interview with FanSided MMA, the former American Top Team fighter outlined a possible venture into the world of boxing before his MMA return:
”Everything I do I back it up, 100 percent go for it. I’m definitely unretired, I’m definitely gonna hurt some people. I’m definitely gonna box this year and sh*t, I just want to get in the best shape possible. Get in that cage again and give it all I got. I can’t go out on a f**king l, the more I think about it, it f**king haunts me and hurts me. So, I’m definitely coming back just to f**king rearrange somebody’s face, or faces.”
It seems evident that Masvidal is eager to recapture his notoriety as a ruthless, vicious contender, gained in no uncertain terms with the five-second flying knee KO that the unfortunate Ben Askren found the receiving end of in UFC 239.
Wins over Darren Till by KO and Nate Diaz via doctor’s stoppage at UFC Fight Night 147 and UFC 244 respectively, led to Jorge Masvidal being crowned the inaugural ‘BMF’ champion; a belt so befitting of Gamebred in nature that many were able to overlook the somewhat phony title and embrace the beautiful vehemence that Masvidal brought to the UFC.
Gamebred Shares his Thoughts on UFC 300 & BMF Belt
As the inaugural BMF champion, Jorge Masvidal will always be synonymous with the title that he clinched with victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 244. Speaking lately with Michael Owens of Lowkick MMA, Gamebred was keen to voice his support for Max Holloway ahead of his upcoming contest with Justin Gaethje at UFC 300:
“I think Max Holloway is one of the baddest mother*ckers that ever lived. That’s a dude that I f*cking salute. I love his style, I love his story, I love his f*cking begginings. I love how humble of a f*cking person he is. I’m going obviously for Max all the way.”
Gamebred’s storied UFC career is sure to live long in the memories of most MMA fans in the modern age, who will no doubt be salivating over Gamebred’s potential return; regardless of age or circumstance.
