Jorge Masvidal, known for his straightforward demeanor both in and out of the octagon, recently didn’t hold back when discussing his longtime rival, Colby Covington. The aftermath of Covington’s recent unanimous decision loss to welterweight champion Leon Edwards at UFC 296 provided Masvidal with the perfect opportunity to weigh in on the situation.
Covington, renowned for his brash personality and unapologetic support of former U.S. President Donald Trump, found himself on the losing end of a contentious battle against Edwards. However, rather than accepting defeat gracefully, Covington opted to attribute his loss to what he perceived as bias from the judges due to his political affiliations. Furthermore, Covington revealed that he had fought the majority of the bout with a broken foot sustained early in the fight.
UFC Star Jorge Masvidal Fires at Colby Covington for Blaming Donald Trump
Masvidal, who shares Covington’s support for Trump but differs greatly in his approach to expressing it, seized the chance to address Covington’s post-fight remarks. In an interview with BroBible, Masvidal didn’t mince words, expressing his frustration with Covington’s behavior:
“For starters, I never met such a f*cking hoe in my life, such a b*tch, you know?” Masvidal remarked. He continued, “He doesn’t know anything about politics… He knows nothing. All this guy f*cking does is throw his money away, f(cking gambling on poker and pay for prostitutes to be in his f*cking video.”
“So for him to go out there and involve Trump’s name so much and then say, ‘The judges don’t like me because I roll with Trump, and they robbed me because of Trump,’ you’re a fcking piece of sht. Now you’re blaming the fcking greatest president this country has ever seen. You’re blaming your fcking shtty ass loss (on him). You didn’t do a damn thing and everybody says – even your mom fcking says – you’re a fcking bum. You’re going to blame that on Trump because you’re such a fcking bum. You’re a piece of sht. It just shows who he is, and of course now he has a broken foot. Guy’s a fcking cheating, lying piece of sht, cop-calling motherfcker, and I can’t wait to see his ass.”
The rivalry between Masvidal and Covington has been simmering for quite some time, reaching a boiling point following their encounter in March 2022, where Covington emerged victorious via a lopsided unanimous decision. However, the animosity didn’t end in the octagon. Shortly after their bout, Masvidal made headlines when he was arrested for an altercation with Covington outside a Miami restaurant.
Legal Encounter
Despite the legal ramifications stemming from the incident, Masvidal remained unapologetic, maintaining his disdain for Covington both as a competitor and as a person. In November, Masvidal entered a guilty plea to a misdemeanor battery charge, ultimately striking a plea deal that saw two felony charges dropped. The resolution of the legal proceedings did little to quell the tension between Masvidal and Covington, as evidenced by Masvidal’s recent comments.
Looking ahead, it’s clear that the feud between Masvidal and Covington shows no signs of slowing down.
