UFC welterweight fighter Jorge Masvidal weighed in on his prediction ahead of tonight’s title fight between Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards.
‘The Nigeran Nightmare’ and ‘Rocky’ will meet for the second time in their careers at UFC 278, with the pair going toe-to-toe seven years ago in the early stages of their UFC career. On that particular night Usman earned a unanimous decision victory. Tonight’s fight has much more life changing implications.
Since the first meeting, Usman has gone on to win thirteen fights back-to-back and cement himself as the P4P king in the UFC, defending his welterweight strap on five different occasions.
Edwards, on the other hand, hasn’t faced defeat inside the Octagon since his loss to Usman in 2015. Jamaican-born Birmingham-raised Edwards hasn’t had the activity as opposed to his opponent in recent years but is coming off a unanimous decision win over Nate Diaz at UFC 263.
Having shared the Octagon with Usman, as well as punching Leon Edwards backstage several years ago, former title challenger Jorge Masvidal gave some insight on how he feels the title fight will unfold.
Jorge Masvidal Predicts Usman vs. Edwards 2
“I think Kamaru wins. I don’t think he stops him or nothing, I just think he wins. I think he finds a way to get him, take him down, control him, throw a couple strikes, take him down, you know?” Jorge Masvidal told MMAFighting (h/t MMANews). “I could see Leon winning, you know, cause it’s a fight, anybody could win, I could see him catch him with a head kick or a knee or something and stopping him because it’s not like Usman is perfect. Nobody is perfect in this sport. He could easily get caught and get put away. But I’m leaning towards Usman.”
Masvidal sees an argument for either of the men in battle but does feel his former foe in Usman will do enough to leave with his hand raised.
Salt Lake City is the destination, UFC 278 is the event, and Kamaru Usman and Leon Edwards take centre stage. Who are you backing to leave with their hand raised?
