Jose Benavidez Sr has called out Canelo Alvarez for ducking fighters who give him a competitive fight.
The father of David Benavidez has been very vocal in calling the Mexican middleweight champion for his lack of enthusiasm for taking tough fights.
Jose and David Benavidez have been calling for the Canelo Alvarez fight since early 2024.
After no response, they seemed to have moved on.
David Benavidez will take on David Morrell this weekend in a highly contested bout.
Despite the Benividez family moving on from Canelo, Jose Benividez can’t help but make his comments on Canelo’s future.
Jose Benavidez has claimed Canelo wouldn’t take a fight against rising star Diego Pacheco.
“You know Canelo would never take a fight with Diego Pacheco. He’s strong, rangy, he uses his jab very well, super young, and he’s getting better and better and better”
Diego Pacheco recently beat Terrence Crawford’s stable mate Steven Nelson causing these comments from Benavidez Sr.
Jose and David Benavidez Claim To Have Accepted Canelo’s Offer-
It has been claimed that David Benavidez accepted a low-blow offer of 5 million dollars for a fight against Canelo last year.
“Sampson Lekwicz called us and said before the Jaime Munguia fight ‘Hey, would you be willing to fight for a flat fee of $5m?
“‘You’re not getting any pay-per-view, none of that’ and I said ‘Yes’.
Benavidez went on to say he accepted but with no response from team Canelo.
“We had agreed, we said yes and then we never heard back.
Benavidez thinks it was bait.
“They were calling the bait out, they thought I was going to say ‘No, I’m not going to fight for $5m this fight is worth way more’.
“So I called their bluff and said yes and that is the last we heard about that fight.”
It is assumed that team Canelo attempted to create the narrative that Benavidez had rejected negotiations.
After Benavidez was willing to fight for a low offer this narrative has been scraped.
Canelo has previously said he would need a near $150-$200 million to take the fight with David Benavidez bringing stability to the claim he’s ducking Benavidez.
