Josh Dean Focused on The Path to Greatness
Josh, another fight week is fastly approaching. How excited are you to get back out there next Saturday and try to right the wrong from your most recent outing?
I’m always excited to get in a fight. It’s what I live for. It’s never about chasing things from the last fight because then you’re not fully focused on the fight at present. It’s about taking the positives and improvements from the last into the next.
One thing I admire and always have about you is your mindset. Win, lose or draw. You’re always positive and take away the positives from every situation. Where does that come from, and how important is that attitude to keep you motivated?
I’d say my mindset just comes from circumstances. My record isn’t great, but most of those fights I’ve been well in, they’ve been close, and I’ve given a good account of myself. My team, especially my Coach Matt Thorpe, have full faith in my ability, hence the level of opposition they put me in there with. My confidence in my ability rolls into my mindset, and I’m motivated to achieve my goals and dreams in this sport.
Dean on Jake Carey as an Opponent
Sat, Nov. 25, you’ll be faced with Jake Carey. How do you like this fight and the chances of you bouncing back into the win column?
Not leaving this to chance. I feel I’m better than him in every area. I’m too well-rounded now. From the footage I’ve seen of him from 2018 to now, he hasn’t evolved much. Moves in similar patterns, similar strikes, similar flinches. I’ll be fully present and aware of the danger he possesses like anyone in there. But I’m coming to prove my level and the work I put in every day.
My expectations of the fight are for him to want to come out quickly and assert himself. We’ve studied the footage and have things in place for his habits, and these will show in the fight. I’ve got less than 9 minutes of cage time across three fights this calendar year in 3 fights, so my ability in all areas hasn’t been shown at all. You can expect me to display my skills, fight IQ, composure and nastiness in this fight.
In your previous fights, you have shown some flashes of brilliance; amateur records can be very deceiving. That said, you are often vocal about your expectations for yourself. What are they for this fight with Jake?

Who Is He?
You posted on Instagram, “2 weeks today, you’ll all be reminded who I am. No games.” That leaves one question: who are you?
I’m just me. Ambitious, brave, curious and passionate about this sport. A lot of people who don’t understand this sport or strive for anything special in life are often critical of me, my record, and my dedication. This will be a reminder that the path I’m on is correct. The path I’m on is leading me to a special and memorable life. I am on my way to something great, one day at a time, one fight at a time. Y’all musta forgot.
