As part of Queensberrys DAZN schedule announcement, Josh Taylor will return to Scotland in May to take on Ekow Essuman in an all action encounter at welterweight.
Josh Taylor vs Ekou Essuman Announced
Josh Taylor will make the move up to 147lbs to take on Essuman. The former undisputed champion will look to rebuild under new guidance of Frank Warren. Last time out he lost to long term rival Jack Catterall in May 2024 in Leeds.
However in the opposite corner is the all action Ekow ‘Engine’ Essuman. Deserving of this big opportunity Essuman comes off wins over Ben Vaughan and Owen Cooper. Both domestic FOTY contenders and full of action in defence of his WBO European Welterweight title.
Here’s what Frank Warren had to say on the fight:
“I am so much looking forward to returning to Scotland with the nation’s biggest star and our latest signing, Josh Taylor, headlining and rebooting his career at welterweight, where I believe he can again do big things, but he will be up against it with Ekow Essuman in the opposite corner.”
Featuring on the undercard is another domestic all action encounter. (15-0) Nathaniel Collins will take on fellow Scotsman (15-1-1) Lee McGregor in a featherweight clash. Collins biggest career win comes in Dec 2023 with a MD win over Zak Miller for the British title, in which this Saturday Miller picked up in a win over Masood Abdulah. Lee McGregor comes in with a win over long term rival Isaac Lowe on the Riyadh season undercard of Usyk-Fury reignited.
The other announced fight for the undercard is hard hitting Cruiserweight (9-1 8KO) Aloys Jr taking on (13-3) David Jamieson. Aloys comes in to the fight after a brutal KO win over Lewis Oakford back in December in his biggest step up yet.
Date or venue has yet to be confirmed, however it’s confirmed to be in May, in Glasgow.
