Alex Pereira could be fighting and headlining on back to back numbered UFC cards if this clause allows it.
Pereira has been a record breaker in his short UFC career so far becoming middleweight and light heavyweight champion in the shortest amount of time. He now will look to break more ground by fighting at back to back numbered cards. According to Josh Thomson on his Weighing In podcast with John McCarthy, the ex kickboxing champion has put a clause in his contract to fight at both UFC 300 and 301.
Saying “Apparently that was part of his contract negotiation. If he gets the win, and he comes out healthy, that he’s allowed to fight on that card. Yeah, that was part of I guess apparently his agreement to fighting on 300. So, we’ll see.”
Alex Pereira Refuses to Overlook Opponent Jamahal Hill
“If everything works out right? First, I have to win this fight [against Hill],” Pereira said. “I work with the reality. I can lose, I can win, either can happen. But I’m doing everything I can to leave with a victory. If everything works out, I can do it. I can say to you guys, every fight I’ve done in the UFC, I had the conditions, the ability, to do it.”
Despite focusing heavily on his UFC 300 main event, he has a desire to fight in Brazil and headline UFC 301 in Rio de Janeiro.
“If I had to fight with any other opponent, I would do the training that I’ve been doing,” Pereira continued. “I’m doing a lot of grappling training. A lot of people think I don’t, because I don’t post a lot. But I’m training well and prioritizing that part. So if it were another opponent, I’d be doing the same camp I’m doing right now. So that won’t be a problem.”
The Brazilian has been a fan favourite addition to the UFC since his debut, displaying all the tools that fans love to see and his ability to stay active has been key to success with the fans. He would also join fellow Brazil legend Jose Aldo who returns to MMA on that very same card.
