Joshua Buatsi took on Dan Azeez in a local derby at Wembley Arena in a 12 round fight which was a war. The fight was set for a WBA title eliminator.
Buatsi won on the cards unanimous 116-110,117-109 and 117-109.
Joshua Buatsi Won the Derby in a Fierce Fight
Both boxers were exchanging hands and it was a constant action fight. Buatsi landed the clearest hands but Azeez never lost his determination.
In the 11th round, Azeez fell twice to the canvas, the first time during a combination although it looks like a slip and Azeez claims it, the second one comes after a right hand from Buatsi that manages to send him to the canvas, although it also looks like a slip, the referee ended up counting it as a knockdown.
Even without the Knockdowns Buatsi won almost all the rounds.
Azeez Showed His Determination

At the same event we also had the opportunity to see the victories of Caroline Dubois, Adam Azin, Ben Whittaker, Jeamie Tshikeva and Francesca Hennesy. All of them left good sensations and won, especially the victories of Azim and Caroline.
What’s Next for Buatsi?
Joshua Buatsi has now announced that he is looking at the winner of Arthur Beterbiev vs Bivol or Anthony Yarde.
Although it should be remembered that the Beterbiev vs Bivol fight would not take place until June 1, so we will not see Joshua Buatsi in the ring again until after the summer of this year.
Also, if Beterbiev were to win that fight, it could be the case that he would retire, so that option really isn’t very viable. Why, if Beterbiev beats Bivol, what’s next? Although the WBA champion is Bivol, and the fight is really even, the chance is for Bivol’s belt.
A curious fact is that Dan Azeez himself sparred with Beterbiev, so if there is a possible Beterbiev vs Buatsi, perhaps Azeez will help Buatsi in his preparation.
On the other hand, Anthony Yarde (24-2 23KOs) fights Marko Nikolic (32-3 12KOs) on February 10, so a fight against Anthony Yarde could be made before the possible winner of Beterbiev vs Bivol if Yarde wins this next fight.
Both fights are great for Buatsi,So we will wait and see how events unfold and if there are no recent injuries like in the case of Fury vs Usyk that could delay the fight between Beterbiev vs Bivol, that will leave Buatsi out more longer.
