The world title eliminator between Joshua Buatsi vs. Dan Azeez has been postponed.
Boxxer announced the postponement on their social media channels. The statement read:
“Due to a back injury suffered by Dan Azeez in his final training session, it has today been confirmed with deep regret, despite Dan’s best efforts, that the world title eliminator between Joshua Buatsi and Dan Azeez this Saturday October 21st at the O2 will have to be postponed.”
Boxxer promoter Ben Shalom and Azeez also spoke on the postponement after the statement.
Boxxer Promoters Weigh In on Joshua Buatsi VS. Dan Azeez
“This is a big shock but everyone at BOXXER is working very hard to ensure we provide clarity for all fighters, teams and most importantly the fans as soon as we can, I know that Dan would do anything to be in the ring on Saturday night and for this to happen at this stage is devastating.” said Shalom.
“My heart goes out to Dan and Joshua, who have both completed tough camps, and to the fans, with more than 10,000 having made arrangements to come on Saturday.” he added.
Azeez said: “I’m devastated for this to happen on fight week, it still hasn’t sunk in. I’ve never had to withdraw from a fight in my career before. I want to apologise to all the fans, especially those travelling to the fight.
He added: I am also extremely sorry to my opponent Joshua Buatsi, to my promoter and to everyone involved who has worked so hard on this date. I hope this fight can be rescheduled as soon as possible.”
Eddie Hearn Comment
A comment made by Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn over three weeks ago lead to speculation of the fight being off.
Speaking to Boxing Social’s YouTube channel Hearn Said: “I hear that Buatsi-Azzez is not happening on October 21st.” He added “It’s just some rumour, most things you read ten percents true, twenty percent true, but that’s one of the things that I’ve seen.”
The rumour were true though as UK boxing fans will now have to wait for the light-heavyweight clash.
