Many wonder if the Rizin bantamweight can shed the extra ten pounds necessary to make championship weight. Having last fought at flyweight over seven years ago in a losing effort to Moon Jae-hoon in June 2017.
However, Kai Asakura has told doubters he has no concerns about making weight ahead of his UFC 310 appearance.
In an interview with Mike Bohn for MMAJunkie, Asakura reassured the mixed martial arts world he would make weight.
Through a translator the question “How is the weight and how is the weight cut down to 125 been to this point?” was asked.
Asakura replied “I think a lot of people don’t realise I’ve fought at flyweight before. I’m accustomed to fighting at that weight. But with regards to my bantamweight fights, I wasn’t cutting a lot of weight. I was cutting a lot less than everybody else is cutting. So this is, to be frank with you, at flyweight I’m cutting a normal amount of weight than everything else would be cutting.”
When pushed one final time if there were any worries he would come in over the 125 lbs limit, Asakura confidently replied “Totally zero”.
