Kamaru Usman has responded to the comments made about him by Conor McGregor where the Irishman called the former UFC welterweight champion a ‘bum’ during his livestream with Duelbits on Monday.
Kamaru Usman Retaliates To Conor McGregor’s Comments
Also taking aim at Ilia Topuria, Leon Edwards, and Khabib Nurmagomedov during the live stream. “The Nigerian Nightmare” was forced to respond to McGregor when the former two-weight champion said: “F*ck Kamaru Usman, he’s a bum.”
Usman replied to the remarks in the most recent episode of Pound 4 Pound with Henry Cejudo. The former welterweight champion was confused as to why he was being targeted.
He said: “At what point does this become more than money? At what point does this become the integrity of the sport? Listen, at the end of the day, Conor is who Conor is. Conor has done some pretty fantastic things in this sport of mixed martial arts for the UFC. He has. But, Conor, so have I. You were a champion, so was I. So, at the end of the day, where I have a little issue is you come around saying, ‘He’s a bum,’ or he’s this. You can’t say that, Conor.
“I didn’t kick him while he was down. He’s had run-ins with the law. He’s had back-to-back instances, but you never heard me sit there and kick the man while he was down. There needs to be some level of respect here because, at the end of the day, that’s what this sport is all about. The respect and the discipline we all put in to get to the top of the sport. That seems to be something he’s lacking.”
Usman Reveals Previous Proposals To Fight McGregor
Having already exchanged words in the past when McGregor threatened to fight Usman for the belt at 170lbs. The Nigerian claims that multiple championship comeback fights have been on the table for “The Notorious”.
Usman said: “I’m not a bum because if you wanted an opportunity to fight me, I gave Conor two opportunities to fight me. Two opportunities while I was champion… but you didn’t. So to call me a bum is kind of disrespectful, and I didn’t disrespect you while you were having your troubles.
“My man, I think it’s better to put that whiskey bottle down and actually come back to your wits, and be a good father and a good role model.”
With McGregor making his return at welterweight against Michael Chandler on June 30th at UFC 303, and Usman potentially returning to the division after his loss to Khamzat Chimaev at middleweight on UFC 294. We might see them clash eventually. If all goes swimmingly.
