Former UFC fighter Karl Roberson faces several charges stemming from an alleged burglary in New Jersey. According to law enforcement, he and another man purportedly stole $200,000 dollars worth of jewelery and other valuables from a home in New Jersey.
Howell Township Police department arrested Roberson and alleged accomplice Dathan Thompson, both 32, as suspected burglars, according to a press release. Roberson’s police pulled Roberson for driving a vehicle believed to be connected with the burglary.
“A search of the vehicle revealed a defaced 9mm handgun with an extended magazine, several packages of suspected ‘crack cocaine,’ marijuana and items related to the burglary,” police said.
Removing the serial number “defaces” a gun, making it tough for law enforcement to track the gun. In the state of New Jersey, it is unlawful to possess a defaced firear. This carryies a sentence of up to 18 months.
What This Means for Karl Roberson
In response, the police department booked Karl Roberson into county jail. He faces charges of burglary, theft, criminal mischief, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and several weapons offenses. Detective Ryan Jackson told MMA Fighting that Roberson spent “two or three weeks” in custody before release.
During the crime, Howell Township PD, Roberson and Thompson broke in through the rear door and headed to the master bedroom, allegedly lifting over $200,000 of goods. Home security surveillance cameras captured the suspects inside and outside the home.
All in all, Roberson faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted of the felony charges. Under American judiciary proceedings, Karl Roberson and Dathan Thompson remain innocent until proven guilty.
Previously, Karl Roberson earned his UFC opportunity through Dana White’s Contender Series in 2017. He made 10 appearances and posting a 4-6 record with the promotion. After a four-fight losing streak ending in a third-round TKO loss to Kennedy Nzechukwu, the UFC released Karl Roberson.
