Team Kaobon amateur contender Karl Wareham fights for the middleweight title against George Williams at Battle Arena’s Wolverhampton event on Saturday, March 5th at The Hanger. He goes into the fight in good form, after stopping his last opponent.
Wareham finished his advisory with a swarm of hard punches, forcing the grounded Elijah Ajala to submit to the onslaught of strikes in the first round. Wareham had proven too good for his opponent in the grappling exchanges in the lead up to the finish.
We caught up with the Stafford fighter ahead of his upcoming bout.
Interview with Karl Wareham
Battle Arena have just announced your opponent change over on their Facebook page, and you will now be fighting George Williams from Wolverhampton BJJ. How do you feel about the change?
Honestly? I’m relieved. George is better suited to my style.
You are known for your finishing abilities. Your most recent victory comes by way of submission due to vicious ground strikes against the cage. Your new opponent has never seen the final bell, win or lose. Is it inevitable that this one ends in highlight-reel fashion?
It’s a hard fight to call, But I would be very surprised if this one makes it all the way to the end.
Karl Wareham Talks Stepping Away From MMA
Your last fight against Elijiah Ajala was your first in five years. Why did you step away, and what brought you back?
Life kind of took over, like work and family. That all went to pot very recently, and I needed something to keep my mind busy. And what better than getting punched in the face?
The fight is for the European middleweight title. How do you feel about fighting back at 185?
Apart from one fight at welterweight, in which I struggled like crazy with a horrible weight cut, all of my fights have been at middleweight. I don’t have to cut much if any weight for it so I’m comfortable at this weight.
With a win at Battle Arena: Wolverhampton, you will be an amateur champion. Do you plan to grab a few more belts for the mantlepiece, or are the pro ranks on the horizon?
I’m happy just doing what I’m doing for now. I’m far too old and rusty to consider going pro.
Thanks for taking the time out to talk to CombatSportsUK. Any final predictions on what fans should expect on March 5th?
