Julianna Peña’s UFC 307 post-fight interview was missing one key component – Kayla Harrison.
The main card opener of UFC 307 saw Kayla Harrison earn an unanimous victory decision over Ketlen Viera. Seemingly putting the former PFL champ next in line for a bantamweight title shot.
In the co-main event, Julianna Peña won back her bantamweight title. Defeating reigning champion Raquel Pennington by split decision in Salt Lake City.
Peña took to the mic after her fight and to the surprise of many, made no mention of Harrison. Instead, ‘The Venezuelan Vixen’ posed a challenge to former foe, Amanda Nunes.
Kayla Harrison Labels Peña “Scared” Ahead of Potential Clash
Speaking to TMZ Sports after the events of last weekend, Harrison reacted to her dismissal in Peña’s post-fight interview.
“I think she’s just scared, gotta make a lot of noise. I think she’ll do anything not to fight me, including call out, she’s probably going to call out Ronda Rousey next.” Harrison joked. “I’m used to it. We’re both blonde, and we did Judo, so we must be just alike.”
Harrison did appear to be relatively unbothered however. Claiming that her manager has assured her that she is next in line regardless of the champ’s wishes.
“From what I understand from my manager [Ali Abdelaziz], I’m next.”
Peña’s callout of Nunes will likely never materialise. At this moment in time, Nunes is retired from the sport and mother to a young child.
A trilogy between Nunes and Peña was scheduled for UFC 289 in June 2023, before the challenger in Peña pulled out with an injury.
Harrison’s victory in Salt Lake City marked her second win inside the UFC. As of now, she is the clear cut no.1 contender – with little to no competition in that department.
