Kelvin Allan has a big weekend creeping up as he prepares to make the walk in his hometown of Lochgelly this Saturday.
Allan is set for his third amateur outing against Luca Gallo at the Lochgelly Centre at Goliath Fight Series 3 and expects a hostile environment for his opponent.
Steven Harris and UFC lightweight Chris Duncan put together a sold-out show, which is expected to provide an action-packed night of violence in Scotland.
We had the pleasure of catching up with Kevlin Allan prior to fight night. Hear what he has to say below.
Interview With Kelvin Allan
Just days out from fight night, Kelvin, how confident were you that you’d actually be competing in Lochgelly on Saturday night, given the pull-outs?
I was very hopeful that Harris and Chris would find me a matchup for this show, as this show is in my home town of Lochgelly brought up and stay in Lochgelly. After having a few pull-outs, Harris got me a matchup on ten days’ notice, so I’m fair buzzing to go out there and put on a show.
With that in mind, did that affect your preparation at all or disrupt your momentum/motivation? Or did you just continue doing things as if you were going to fight?
These things happen. It’s the game we play. I’ve just had to keep myself focused and training hard like I had a fight, so nothing changed at my end.
Kelvin Allan Talks Change of Opponents
How do you feel about the change of opponents and both matchups that you did have and now have?
I feel good about the matchup. I don’t know anything about the guy. I am only focusing on myself, my game and being the best I can be on the night. For the other matchups, I was scheduled to have. Hopefully, they could maybe get rematched, or we move on to bigger things.
November of last year, you picked up the first victory of your amateur career and sent the crowd wild. Talk us through the emotions of getting that first win under your belt and how that moment made you feel.
It was a great feeling getting that first win under my belt and many more to come. Winning in front of all my friends and family means a lot to me. I always want to go out and put on a show for those who have bought tickets to watch. I am forever grateful for my friends and family, who follow me wherever I am fighting.
Looking at your socials, I see you attended the Liam Harrison seminar. One of the most elite strikers in the entire country. What was it like being in the same room and learning from somebody like him? Can we expect to see you implement the little tricks you picked up with him on Saturday night?
Harris brings a lot of good high-level guys up for seminars. It’s great just picking up little things from everyone. It goes a long way. I hope to showcase these new skills on Saturday night.
The Matchup
The man you’ll now face is Luca Gallo from England. Everyone loves a good old Scotland vs. England matchup. Does that mean anything to you or get you more hyped up, or is it just another fight at the end of the day, from your view?
You can’t beat a Scotland v England matchup. He’s coming into my town. It’s going to be loud the atmosphere in the place is going to be electric. But at the end of the day, it’s just another fight. It’s another time I get to step in there and gain experience as a young amateur fighter.
You’ve clearly been grafting and putting in the work lately. Where do you feel your supporters can expect to see the biggest improvements from you from your last fight?
I do not want to give too much away, but I’ve been working on all my games, from the striking to my grappling. You can expect that I will be comfortable wherever this fight goes. I’m ready for it all.
Just talk me through the team morale at Goliath MMA when you have a handful of guys preparing to compete on the same card.
There is not a gym like it. It’s a family in that gym. When one of us goes to war, we all go to war. Everyone in the gym is there for each other in the good times and in the hard times. We have all been putting in the work to make sure we are ready for this. All the boys are looking sharp and ready to go. Saturday night will be madness.
Hometown Fight
Finally, What does it mean to you to be fighting in your home town, home support and everything coming to watch you? Does that come with a sense of pressure?
Fighting in my hometown is going to be great. I drive past the venue every day on my way to training. There is no added pressure at my end just need to go in and do the business looking for the finish at all times and, most importantly, come out with that WIN.
