As we close in to the Saturday’s big main event in Saudi Arabia, here are some ways in which Tommy Fury can emerge victorious against rival Jake Paul
The Jab
The jab is widely regarded as the most important punch in boxing. With such versatilely and effectiveness, having a good jab is vital. Fortunately for Tommy, he has shown exactly what a perfected jab looks like. Tommy uses his 80 inch reach to gauge distance, feint shots and set up combinations time and time again. He has also showed power within his jab, snapping heads back of his opponents when they attempt to close distance. Jake must be aware of this, as he will likely have to take many of these jabs in order to land that infamous right hand. If Tommy uses his jab to maintain distance, he can control the pace of the fight and out box Jake for a decision victory.
Experience of Tommy Fury
The level of opposition Tommy has faced in his professional career have not been highly challenging thus far. However, the fights under his belt and ring time is something Tommy has which Jake cannot match. With an amateur background and more professional bouts than Jake, this heavily plays in Tommy’s favour. Not to mention growing up with Tyson Fury, current WBC heavyweight champion. Tommy stated that he has been around boxing gyms and heavyweights his entire life. Observing the best heavyweight in the world, seeing different styles, and growing up in a boxing family is valuable experience that cannot be bought. While Jake has been boxing for almost five years, Tommy doubles this in ring time and experience.
The Clinch
The clinch is definitely not a fan favourite skill in boxing, but a necessary defensive technique used to break an opponents rhythm. With Tommy having perfected his jab feints and combinations following the jab, the clinch can then be used to stop a return combination from Jake Paul. As seen in many of Jake’s fights, he is able to land his right hand when he finds his rhythm. If Tommy can disrupt this rhythm, it will help him avoid the power punches, frustrate Jake and potentially force him to make a mistake and provide an opening for Tommy.
Composure
Psychological warfare is something Tommy had yet to experience until his fight with Jake Paul was announced. During Tommy’s last fight, Jake ridiculed him on live commentary. He has also took shots at his girlfriend Molly Mae on social media for her appearance. Jake even went as far as announcing the birth of Tommy’s child before anyone else. Despite these antics, Tommy seems to be composed and has not tried to return fire in any way. Tommy stated that he will do all the talking in the ring. This will benefit Tommy as we’ve seen in the past, fighting with anger and emotion can lead to deviation from the game plan and eventually defeat.
