The rising star Keyshawn Davis has called out British prospect Adam Azim and offers to fight him in the UK.
The exciting lightweight prospect from across the pond Keyshawn Davis told Sky Sports that, “Adam Azim been calling my name out for some time now. I would love to fight Adam. The undefeated American even went on to say that he would be happy to fight Azim on UK Soil. “If Adam is willing to fight me, I will play the game and we will fight in the UK and make it a mega sell-out fight,” said Davis.
Who is Keyshawn Davis?
The 24 year old former Olympian won silver at the 2020 Tokyo games. Davis turned his hand to the professional ranks in February 2021. As of now Davis is undefeated after 10 fights with 7 victories coming via stoppage. His most recent victory came earlier this month. The young prospect produced a flawless performance against former world champion Jose Pedraza. The fight appeared on the undercard of other Top Rank fighter, Teofimo Lopez.
Following Teofimo’s lacklustre victory against Jamaine Ortiz. Davis had to be escorted away from the ring after a clash with Lopez. After a verbal altercation over the ropes, Keyshawn Davis jumped out of his seat and attempted to climb in the ring with the Super-Lightweight Champion. Security swiftly intervened before any physical altercation could happen. 135 pound fighter appears to have his eyes set on the 140 division, this could be a sign that the prospect is struggling to meet the lightweight limit.
Adam Azim:
Adam Azim is currently one of the hottest prospects in British boxing. With a similar record to Davis, 11 wins with 8 coming by way of knockout, albeit against lesser competition. Azim has still managed to become the youngest British fighter to win a European title, the achievement is made even more impressive considering his lack of amateur background, especially in comparison to his prospective opponent.
Adam Azim burst on to the scene in 2020. Trained by the highly rated Shane Mcguigan and promoted by Ben Shalom’s Boxxer and Sky Sports. He certainly has the backing to go all the way. The 22 year old contender won the EBU title in November 2023 beating the experienced Franck Petitjean by late stoppage. The Slough fighter defended the belt in February 2024, he faced undefeated Enock Poulsen who retired in the fifth round with a dislocated shoulder, although Azim was dominating the fight up until the injury.
Keyshawn Davis vs Adam Azim Next?
With both fighters seemingly open to fighting each other and Top Ranks partnership with Sky Sports it is likely that this fight could be made. There is the not so small matter of British Champion, Dalton Smith to contend with. The British Board of Boxing Control has ordered Dalton Smith vs Adam Azim next, so has the European Boxing Union. With Smith set to headline a main even in his hometown of Sheffield on March the 23rd against his toughest opponent to date, Jose Zepeda.
With purse bids expected in April, we may see Smith vs Azim next or belts to become vacant. Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn has been very vocal in making the fight between the Sheffield fighter and Slough fighters. Stating to IFLTV, “If you are willing to fight Keyshawn Davis, who is apparently to fight Lopez. How can you not fight Dalton Smith.” Boxxer and Ben Shalom have been under fire recently for pulling their fighters out of purse bids. Shalom stated to Sky Sports that the fight “Has to be on the right platform” does not fill fans with hope that we will see this fight next.
