Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor’s Beef Flares up In the buildup to Usman Nurmagomedov vs Paul Hughes
Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor have revisited their feud this week. Regardless of their UFC 229 bout where Nurmagomedov emerged victorious, their beef is far from over.
After the bout, Nurmagomedov’s team rushed the octagon and a post-fight brawl broke out. In the years since the two have been unable to put the rivalry to bed with frequent social media exchanges.
The latest development comes after Khabib’s cousin and Bellator Lightweight champion Usman Nurmagomedov was booked to face Irishman Paul Hughes on January 25th, 2025.
Tension resurfaced following Khabib’s comments ahead of the Bellator Lightweight title fight. In a recent interview, Khabib disparaged the quality of Irish fighters, stating, “Ireland doesn’t have fighters… The level of Ireland is not even half the level of Dagestan.”
This reignited their distaste for each other, leading to a series of social media exchanges.
Dagestan MMA v Irish MMA
In a since-deleted post, McGregor responded, referring to Khabib and his team as “bums,” “traitors,” and “yellow teeth.” Then further asserting, “Never speak my name, you are not on my level.
Even Darren Till caught wind of Khabib’s comments and defended Irish fighters. But fans were quick to shut him down, stating how small the area of Dagestan is comparatively.
McGregor then shared a video to social media, displaying his career highlights and mockingly contrasting them with the Dagestani MMA fighter’s signature wrestle-heavy style.
To add fuel to the fire Khabib shared footage of McGregor’s iconic “We’re not here to take part we’re here to take over” speech, then cutting to Khabib’s UFC 229 ground and pound beat down on McGregor. Slyly captioning the post with “Deeds not words,” further intensifying the feud.
As the rivalry between these two MMA legends heats up once more, fans are left wondering if, despite Khabib’s retirement, this renewed hostility will lead to another confrontation inside the octagon.
