Former UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov reflects on winning a back-to-back street fight against two brothers when he was young.
Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov left the fight game undefeated with a perfect record of 29-0-0. Finishing UFC greats such as; Conor McGregor, Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje along the way, no one came close to stopping him.
Known for his suffocating wrestling, Khabib put his hometown of Dagestan, Russia, on the map. Leaving behind an incredible legacy and inspiring the region of Dagestan to follow in his footsteps.
Many fighters since have picked up where he left off such as Umar Nurmagomedov, Muhammad Mokaev, Islam Makhachev, Magomed Ankalaev and many more. But Khabib may not have become the fighter he was, had he been born elsewhere.
In a recently resurfaced interview, Khabib recounts a streetfight he got into as a youngster which kickstarted his passion for fighting.
Khabib Nurmagomedov Recounts His Back-to-Back Street Fight in Dagestan
Khabib Nurmagomedov describes the time he fought off not one but two people as a teenager in Dagestan. The story shows how Khabib was destined for combat sports greatness.
In the interview, he said:
“One time my cousin fight in the street, he lose and I go fight. I said, ‘Now, you need to fight with me’. [When I] was 14 or 15. I fight with him, and I beat this guy. His brother now fight with me. But this guy thought I was tired. I fought maybe four or five minutes with him and finish him with a choke. He (The brother) comes, I finish him too. I choke him.”
This gritty tale tells of Khabib’s fighting spirit and how he has always had a knack for fighting. A story reminiscent of Khabib’s fourth-round submission of Conor McGregor when he lept out of the octagon to brawl with McGregor’s team.
