UFC Star Khamzat Chimaev Unable to Enter US
Chimaev’s close ties to Kadyrov have drawn mixed reactions from fans. While some admire his loyalty, others voice concerns about the implications, especially regarding his ability to compete internationally. Recently, Chimaev faced challenges entering the United States, leading him to seek residency in the United Arab Emirates.
His coach, Alan Nascimento, shed light on the situation, noting the struggles faced by many Russian athletes due to geopolitical tensions. Despite these hurdles, Nascimento remains optimistic about Chimaev’s future prospects.
However, the relationship between Chimaev and Kadyrov isn’t without its complications. In 2020, the United States sanctioned Kadyrov and his Akhmat MMA fight club, citing concerns over human rights abuses. This move marked a significant development, casting a shadow over Kadyrov’s sporting ventures and potentially impacting Chimaev’s career trajectory.
Through the Akhmat MMA fight club, Kadyrov sought to bolster his public image by associating with notable figures, including celebrities and athletes. Despite these efforts, the sanctions imposed by the US government underscored the scrutiny surrounding Kadyrov’s activities and his connections to prominent sports organizations like the UFC.
What’s Next for Chimaev?
In light of these developments, Chimaev finds himself at the intersection of sports and geopolitics, navigating challenges beyond the octagon. While his allegiance to Kadyrov may have its repercussions, Chimaev remains focused on his mission to attain UFC gold.
Chimaev is coming off a majority decision victory over Kamaru Usman at UFC 294. Prior to that, he submitted Kevin Holland and defeated Gilbert Burns by unanimous decision.
