Khamzat Chimaev is eyeing a return to the Octagon very soon. Seen as one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC, many have wondered why the talented Chechen fighter has been inactive since September.
“Borz” last fight took place at UFC 279. He defeated Kevin Holland in dominating fashion via a first-round D’arce choke. This win did not come without criticism, as he was originally scheduled to fight Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout. When Khamzat hit the scales Friday morning, he was 7.5 pounds over the welterweight limit. The UFC was quick to make a change and pit Chimaev against Holland in a catch-weight bout. There has been a lot of speculation if undefeated fighters would ever fight at welterweight again. It seems as if he would take any fight at this point.
Khamzat Chimaev Wants Quick Turn-Around Between Bouts
The UFC is heading back to Paris for only the second time in the promotion’s history. Khamzat took to Twitter to express his interest in the upcoming card: “I am ready to fight in Paris, ready to fight after in Abu Dhabi let me smash somebody.”
UFC Fight Night in Paris takes place September 2nd, and UFC 294 takes place October 21st, exactly 49 days apart from each other. This would not be the first time “Borz” has had a quick turnaround. In 2020, the All-Star MMA product fought on back-to-back cards against John Phillips and Rhys Mckee. He finished both fighters in impressive fashion and has gone on to win every fight that he’s had in the UFC.
Rumours have swirled in the MMA world of who the next opponent would be for the undefeated fighter. Kamaru Usman has been adamant in his pursuit of the fight for quite some time, and Chimaev seems willing to oblige. Both fighters have engaged on twitter to show their interest in facing each other. One thing is for sure. Whoever faces “Borz” next is going to have their hands full. The Chechen fighter has accumulated a 12-0 record and has finished all but one of his opponents in his career.
