Khamzat “Borz” Chimaev is set to have surgery.
During an Instagram live, Chimaev answered some questions for some fans. He is about to undergo surgery and warned all the fighters in the middleweight division for when he is set to return back into the octagon. The undefeated UFC fighter provided an update on his injured right hand. He injured it during his short notice fight against Kamaru Usman. “Borz” won that fight via majority decision back in October in Abu Dhabi at UFC 294.
“I’m going to do surgery, [an] operation in one, two weeks, after that [I’ll] do the recovery, come back, smash somebody,” Chimaev said.
Khamzat Chimaev Gives Update
After badly missing weight where he was suppose to headline UFC 279 with Nate Diaz, he faced Kevin Holland. Chimaev went on to get the victory in the first round via submission. After this horrific weight miss, it was announced the his next fight would come at middleweight. Slated to fight Paulo Costa at UFC 294, Costa was forced to pull out due to a nasty infection on his elbow. This led to the former welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman, to step in on 13 days notice and fight at 185 pounds.
Chimaev injured his right hand during the fight. “Borz” started with a dominant first round where he picked up 10-8 on all three judges score cards. Afterwards, Usman came back into the fight and turn the tide a little. This fight became really competitive. Although getting the win, this let fans with more questions than answers following the event.
As far as when we can see Khamzat Chimaev in the octagon next, he made it very clear UFC 300 is his target.
“Tell Dana White, make that happen,” Chimaev responded.
