Interview With Kye Purkis
Not long until you make the walk for the first time in your career as an amateur MMA fighter. Firstly, tell the readers how long you’ve been training and why you decided to walk through the doors of an MMA gym for the first time.
I’ve been training on and off for the past 5/6 years, but I’ve consistently trained for the past two years.
You’re going through all these emotions of preparing for a fight, entering fight week, being in the fight week bubble and then making the walk for the first time. A week out, how’s the mental state at now? Any nerves? Anxiety? Or are you filled with excitement?
I’m confident in the time and the work that I’ve put in the past few months. Just counting down the days now.
Nobody outside of your gym knows what to expect from you. In what department can the audience expect to see the best from you? Are there any areas of your game you expect to excel in at BFC 4?
I trained in Karate when I was younger, so striking is where I felt most comfortable, but my grappling has improved these past two years.
Making His Debut
Debuts and the amateur scene are all about putting the skills you’ve attained in the gym to practice. Are you someone who’s quite hard on yourself? Tell us, waking up Sunday morning, what type of performance will it take for you to be happy with yourself?
I know how much I’ve put into preparing for this, so no matter what happens, I’ll be happy Sunday morning.
Josh Scott-Bell is the man who stands across the cage from you. He will also make his debut. Does it make it easier knowing someone’s going through the same emotions as you?
Yeah, it does. If I control my emotions, I’ll be one step ahead from the start.
Finally, leave us with your official prediction. How does Kye Purkis get it done?
I predict a 2nd round TKO stoppage.
