Leon Edwards revealed the incredible gift he bought his mum following his historic UFC 278 victory.
Edwards had no idea Salt Lake City, Utah, was a place on the map. However, it’s now a location that’s in his heart forever. In August, the Jamaican-born shocked the world with a beautifully timed head kick that put Kamaru Usman out cold and gained him the UFC welterweight title.
The fight was looking like another comfortable defence for the pound-for-pound king at the time, but “Rocky” had other ideas. The world of mixed martial arts continues to provide spine-tingly moments, and Edwards certainly did that, along with inspiring individuals with a similar background as him.
It’s been well documented that Edward’s family never had it easy. They were forced to adapt and overcome tough situations to ensure they got where they are today. Edward put a great deal of his success down to the woman that raised him, his mum. For that, he thanked her with a very special gift.
The 31-year-old confirmed in an interview with Sky Sports that he decided to thank her for everything she’s done for him.
Leon Edwards Talks Championship Glory, Usman Trilogy and More
“I gave her a car before, but this time she wanted like a restaurant. She’s a very good cook. She loves cooking. I kept saying I can get someone to work in there for you, but she said no, I want to work there, and I want to cook there – she wants to do it.
“So we’re now trying to open a restaurant, I found a space now, and we’re fixing it up, kitting it out, and yeah, it should be opening in the next two or three weeks.”
“She’s excited for it, a little project for her to do, and yeah, I’m excited for her.”
What’s next for the champ is still up in the air. That being said, Edward’s recently expressed if he had his way, it would be a title fight with Kamaru Usman in the UK in March at Villa Park in Birmingham.
