UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards has insisted that he will not be chasing another highlight reel knockout when he faces Kamaru Usman at UFC 286. The fight will be the third time the two have faced one another, with Edwards coming out on top in their rematch in August.
Their fight in March will be Edwards’ first title defence since winning the belt in Salt Lake City. His unforgettable KO, which he landed in the final minute of the fight, has earned him all the plaudits he has always been deserving of.
Leon Edwards Predicts Better Version of Himself
Recently, the champ explained how he believes the high altitude of Salt Lake City was detrimental to his performance. He is predicting a better performance from himself this time around after losing the majority of their previous fight. “Rocky” has stated that he doesn’t care how he gets it done, as long as he’s the one leaving with that 170lbs belt once again.
31-year-old Edwards has had an interesting relationship with UFC London cards in the past. He was originally scheduled to headline it back in 2020 against Tyron Woodley before the event was cancelled. He had regular back-and-fourths with Darren Till, especially in the build-up to Till’s main event the year before. And, of course, the famous altercation with Jorge Masvidal.
In an interview with BT Sport, the champ said: “I’m excited. Now, I’m going back as the main man. I should imagine all love, so it’s going to be a fantastic evening.”
With around two months to go now until Leon’s first walk to the Octagon, as the champion, he holds all the power. Speaking on Usman, he also said, ” I know he’s tough, I know he’s good. I’m not deluded. I know he’s a good fighter, but I truly believe that I am better”.
