Leon Edwards slammed Jorge Masvidal after the UFC veteran pulled out of their scheduled matchup through injury, which was pencilled in for UFC 269 in December 2021.
To much delight of the British MMA fanbase, Leon Edwards has stayed true to himself and is finally set to get his well-deserved crack at the UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.
Nobody has managed to derail Edward’s noteworthy win streak within the division in the last ten fights. The Birmingham boy’s last victory came over fan favourite Nate Diaz at UFC 263 in June.
Leon Edwards Talks Jorge Masvidal
In an interview on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Edwards wasn’t shy in expressing how he felt about Jorge Masvidal and his pull-out, labelling him a “p*ssy”, and stating the beef still needs to be squashed after the famous ‘3-piece and a soda’ incident.
“I thought, you know p*ssy,” Edwards said. “I had a feeling he’d have done it, you know. I don’t think he wants to fight, and I’ve always said that he doesn’t want to fight me. Lastly, I would’ve loved for that fight to have happened.”
“I’ll give him the title shot, that’d be a fantastic fight in the UK. Bring it back to the O2 where it happened, for the title. That’s the one to do next, that’s the best.”
If victorious against Kamaru Usman at UFC 278, Edwards has his sights firmly locked on a title defence in his home country of England and is willing to give Masvidal a third crack at UFC gold.
“If that happens in the UK, sure. Like I said my dream scenario would be to bring it back to London and to headline London,” Edwards said. “So I want to come back home and then do it, so yeah.”
