Leon Edwards revealed he’s not forgotten about Jorge Masvidal. It’s a fight the Birmingham boy needs to get back, whether in the cage or the street.
Edwards is soaking up all the rewards that come with attaining a UFC world championship. The 31-year-old did the unthinkable at UFC 278 and separated Kamaru Usman from consciousness with a beautifully timed head kick. The rest is history. The British champion is set to defend his title against Usman in 2023 in what would be his most luxurious payday to date.
It hasn’t always been all sunshine and rainbows for Edwards, who has had to overcome adversity to earn what he’s got.
Considered one of the nicest personalities in the sports, Edwards had some altercations in the sport. Most notably with Jorge Masvidal backstage at UFC London in 2019. Masvidal assaulted Edwards post-fight, and it’s something the Jamaican-born athlete hasn’t forgotten about.
Leon Edwards Discusses Jorge Masvidal Altercation
“I can’t let it go,” Edwards said. “It’s not let go, and this happened three years go. Yeah, it’s not let go, and I have to get it back in the octagon or in the street. It has to be got back.”
“I don’t like him,” Edwards said. “We had a scuffle backstage. That was in London, as well, my hometown, but they took him, moved him, hid him, and fled him out of my country.
“I haven’t seen him since. That was three years ago. Apart from that, everyone else, it’s an easy fight. Backstage is all, ‘Good luck in your life, your family and your career.’ It’s all love.”

With Edwards expected to defend his belt against Usman and Masvidal pursuing a fight with Gilbert Burns, it would take both parties attaining the same result for a fight to materialise.
