Just days ahead of their clash at UFC 296, UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards has advice for Colby Covington. According to Edwards, his American rival should get a girlfriend rather than fixating on ‘another man’. The ‘another man’ in this case being former American President Donald Trump.
All set to trade blows this weekend, the two men recently participated in the media day of UFC 296. Leon’s statement comes after Covington showed up to the event in a t-shirt featuring Donald Trump’s mugshot. However, this isn’t the first time that ‘Chaos’ has publicly expressed his love for the ex-President. So what happened that Leon had to speak on the matter?
Leon Edwards Claps Back at Colby Covington
During the recently concluded media day event of UFC 296, Leon Edwards expressed his opinion on Colby Covington’s relationship with Donald Trump. According to Edwards, he finds this relationship weird and beyond his comprehension. “I don’t know. I think the whole scenario is weird,” Leon said to reporters.
I don’t get the fascination with another man. I don’t get it. I know he used to be president and stuff, but he’s no longer the president. So, I don’t get what’s going on. It’s just weird. Why he picked him just to be a character off the back of him? I just don’t get it,” he further added.
For those unaware, Donald Trump is expected to be among the spectators at UFC 296. The politician also mentions Covington as his favorite fighter and would be present at the upcoming event to support him. Taking this relation further, Covington had earlier proposed to make his walk out alongside him, but this plan seemingly went up in flames after the UFC denied this demand. However, despite this setback, ‘Chaos’ seems to have a new strategy to celebrate the GOP member.
In a recent interview, Covington revealed that he would ask Donald Trump to wrap the Championship belt around his waist instead of Dana White. But if ‘Rocky’ is to be believed, this plan of his fellow welterweight wouldn’t materialize. In his own words: “Trump won’t wrap nothing around his waist because he ain’t getting the belt. Trump has been there before when he’s lost. So, Trump can’t fight for him. He just needs to grow up and go get a girlfriend or something.”
