It was recently announced that Levi Batchelor v Mert Tascakar will headline Cage Warriors Academy Wales 9 in March. The two will meet, looking to pick up the vacant featherweight title in Ebbw Vale.
Just a day before the fight news broke, it was also announced Ieuan Mackenzie would be vacating that very title as he aims to make the switch to professional fighting at the start of the new year. Now, with the belt vacant, the two prospects can look to secure their second title as amateurs.
Levi Batchelor
“Young Money” decided recently that he would be moving up to featherweight after some difficult weight cuts. He made his featherweight debut when he took on the former champ, Mackenzie. However, Levi was unsuccessful on this occasion.
Despite his first loss, the 21-year-old got straight back into it when he defeated Ioannis Marathias this month. A unanimous decision victory moved his record up to 6-1, and ready to go for the title once again.
The former bantamweight champion has fought all of his last five fights in Ebbw Vale. As well as this, the home crowd advantage always hypes Batchelor up whenever he needs to perform.
Mert Tascakar
Mert Tascakar is proving to be a real problem for amateur featherweights across the country. Fighting out of Bristol, the rising talent recently secured his first title at Meltdown FC 9. A split-decision win over Ryan Southern kept his win streak in tact.
On the same card that Batchelor fell up short to Mackenzie, Tascakar got his first win in Ebbw Vale. An incredibly impressive win against Cato Dacres showed the power that he has in his hands. After his victory, he said: “I wanna fight on here again and potentially a title fight, why not?”
Now, just a few weeks after his huge title win, he’s already signed on the go for number two.
Cage Warriors Academy Wales 9
Cage Warriors Academy Wales returns to Ebbw Vale on March 25th with their headline fight, the only one to be announced as of yet. However, it is now confirmed that we will be seeing a second title fight added.
As usual, it is expected that the card will be stacked with young British talent. Organiser and promoter Richard Shore stated after their most recent event that we would see potentially five shows in 2023.
“We’ll be spreading our wings a bit next year. We’ve got a show booked for Cardiff. We won’t confirm any dates yet, but we’ll be doing a Cardiff event. Possibly four, maybe five cards next year.”
You can get all the news ahead of the card right here at Combat Sports UK. We can’t wait for Levi Batchelor v Mert Tascakar. Stay tuned.
