Lewis Edwards is all set to make the walk to the octagon for the second time in his career after falling short in his debut.
Edwards will feature on the MMA portion of this Saturday’s Goliath Fight Series card that is expected to go down at the Alloa Town Hall. The fight will be on the back-end of the show’s grappling show which will take place earlier that day. Promoter’s Steven Harris and Chris Duncan continue to take the show to new heights.
Ahead of his fight with Matthew Dixon, we managed to get a word with Lewis Edwards to see how he’s feeling. Hear the full interview below.
Interview With Lewis Edwards
Saturday night, you make the walk to the cage for the second time. What mental state are you coming in with after you got your debut under your belt?
My mental state will be the same as I always try to stay cool, calm and collected and try to enjoy the moment, and that’s when I have the most success.
The fight itself didn’t go your way. In your own assessment, what went wrong in order for you not to walk away with your hand raised?
Well, the first round didn’t go amazingly, as he had some nice calf kicks that were keeping me from really putting on the pressure. But when I came to the 2nd and 3rd, I believe I won both rounds, but they were close rounds. Overall, it was a brilliant debut against a great competitor.
Lewis Edwards Discusses Lessons Learnt
What did you learn about yourself and the experience overall despite not walking away with the victory?
I believe every fighter should have a fight like my last one as you learn soo much from it. I know I can comfortably go into deep waters.
What pursued you to walk through the gym doors for the very first time? Is there anybody that inspired you to get started?
My favourite thing to watch is the ufc, and I was almost 120 kg and needed to do something, so I thought I’d give mma a try and fell madly in love with this sport, and it has completely changed my life. My favourite fighter is Justin Geathje. I feel he has inspired my style of fighting.
Your fight on their last show blew away the Goliath faithful. Can a fight like that be topped again from you, or are you looking for a quick nice first finish of your amateur career?
I believe that Steven has matched us for a reason. He knows that this should be a fight-of-the-night contender.
The Matchup
Matthew Dixon is the man that will stand across the cage from you. What do you know about him, if anything, and how do you feel your skills match up against one another?
I’ve seen a couple of fights from Mathew looks like a tall and long fighter. I believe that our styles are going to clash, and it has fight of the night all over it.
What would it mean to you to get that first win under your belt on Saturday night, and how would Lewis Edwards celebrate after?
It would be amazing to get my first mma win, but it’s all about the experience. For me would be celebrating by driving home and going to sleep ahaha.
I’ll leave you with the last word. Is there anyone you’d like to thank or any last words for Matthew?
I would like to thank my coach Dannie Duthie. He’s done so much for me in my career, and also, thanks to everyone at MACSimum mma, I will not let you down. To Mathew, looking forward to war on Saturday night.
