Lewis Hamilton is all set to make his mixed martial arts debut this Saturday at Goliath Fight Series 3.
Hamilton is feeling more than ready to put on a show for his loyal and loud support at the Lochgelly Centre, Lochgelly. The Ayrshire Hit Squad fighter will collide with the fellow debutant, Gian Murgia.
Ahead of his first walk to the octagon as an amateur, we had the chance of catching up with Lewis Hamilton. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Lewis Hamilton
Lewis, you’re just days out from your mixed martial arts debut. Tell me the feelings, emotions, and excitement levels you’re going through at the minute.
Yeah, the excitement and emotions are here, but in seriousness, I’m ready, my head in a good space. I feel loose, fast, and agile. It’s a good buzz going around my body, knowing I’ll soon be in there showing what I’m about.
Last May, you made the walk and competed in K1. Having been in there, I felt the contact, made the walk and soaked myself in that atmosphere. How much do you think that experience will help you on Saturday night?
My K1 fight went my way comfortably last time against a good opponent. My striking has got even better and sharper since then, and I’m excited to see what I can do with it this time around in a different discipline. My grappling has improved massively as well. I think my cage work is all around better attack and defence. I picked up a few things I can put into use on the ground as well. I feel that because I’ve felt the atmosphere in the cage, I will be calm and collected in there, not let my emotions get the best of me.
In your K1 fight, your away support and the noise they generated were highlighted on several occasions. Can we expect the same in the Lochgelly centre on April 29th?
Yes, you can expect the same atmosphere in terms of away support. Love when all my support is there. It makes me feel like I’m not only proving something to myself, I’m there to put on a show for them, and they certainly bring the noise with them.
Lewis Hamilton Talks Goals in the Sport
As you’re about to embark on a mixed martial arts journey that has twists, turns, setbacks, and highs along the way, what are you looking to get out of the sport? These goals can change as you progress in your career, but at this moment in time, what are you aiming to get out of the sport?
Currently, I’m just proving to myself that I am good enough, that I am willing to put in the work, and that if you put in the work, you’ll get the results. Really enjoying training just now and adding to my weaponry. Well, see what happens in future, but right now, I’m just focusing on getting better every session.
You meet with Gian Murgia on the night, who comes from a respectable gym. Have you snooped on your opponent, and if so, what vibe do you get from him?
Nah, I’m not sure about Gian. I haven’t seen or got anything on the guy, but it doesn’t change the plan on Saturday. I’m willing to go wherever with him.
I ask as he wrote on his socials, “Opponent seems fine” What do you think or feel he means by that?
I’m not sure what he means by “he seems fine”, to be honest, but at the same time, I don’t care what opponents have to say about me, good or bad. Obviously, I do respect most fighters, but we’re in there to fight, so we’ll see what he’s about on Saturday.
Training Alongside Teammates on the Same Card
You’ve been preparing alongside your team-mate Greg for Goliath Fight Series 3. How easier is it in camp training and making the walk alongside others in the gym? I imagine it pushes both of you in the gym.
Greg is a great fighter, very dedicated to the sport, and never away from the gym. His striking and grappling are both very strong; he looks great going into this fight. It definitely helps to have someone like him around. You feel you need to match each other’s dedication, show each other support, just give each other tips etc.
For those that didn’t get the opportunity to witness your K1 fight last May, tell them why they should tune in to your MMA debut to get the whole experience and atmosphere that comes with it.
People should tune in cause I’ve gotten so much better both in grappling and striking since last year’s K1 fight. The support will be even better. Definitely going to be a noisy one. I think it’ll be a great fight. I know I’m going in there to put one on anyways.
To close out, leave us with your official fight prediction ahead of Saturday. How does Lewis Hamilton get his hand raised?
I don’t really care how I get the win, to be honest. I just have tunnel vision on the win, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to get that. See you Saturday.
