Lewis Lever promises to deliver a fan-friendly performance for those attending Kingdom Combat Championships 3 on Feb. 25.
The young flyweight is scheduled to face 26-year-old Spanish international Osian Gil in a European title eliminator at the Camp and Furnace, Liverpool. The stakes are high, but Lever is heading into the bout with his confidence sky-high.
The Brit’s confidence is statistically backed-up by his 2022 campaign in competition. Last year saw Lever go 3-0 with a 100% finish rate, and he shows no intention of slowing down.
We had the opportunity of catching up with Lever ahead of his first outing of the year at Kingdom Combat Championship 3. Read the full exclusive interview below.
Interview With Lewis Lever
2022 was an excellent year for you, winning three fights, all in fanatic fashion. Just summarise your last year in competition and how satisfied you are with your work.
Yes, 2022 was another good year for me making my debut at amateur B & amateur A, fighting on top shows where I could showcase some of my skills. I had a few injuries towards the end of the year, but I was still around the gym, learning all the time, so although I couldn’t fight, I can’t really complain. The year was good.
Your first year of competing can be a memorable one as you progress through your career. What valuable lessons have you taken from your first year as an amateur? Has everything unfolded how you anticipated, or has anything surprised you?
I’ve always known how it was going to start years ago. I could just see my path and how it would go, I had my head down, not being too loud and preparing for when the time was right.
You previously mentioned that you want to set a good example for the younger generation who look up to you. Where does that desire come from, and how important is that for you?
Yes, a lot of fighters younger than I sort of see the way I’ve worked and developed since a kid, and see that’s the way to start if you want to make it later on and have the best chance to go to the top, I do a lot of private training with younger fighters and want to keep showing a good example and where hard work and commitment can get you.
Lewis Lever Discusses Upcoming Bout With Osian Gil
Feb. 25, you’ll make the walk at Kingdom Combat Championship 3 in a title eliminator matchup against Osian Gil. Is that a testament to your potential with newly formed shows eager to get you in and potentially to compete for their flyweight title?
Yes, I know I have the potential to upset a lot of good fighters, even at this age, so I don’t mind taking hard fights on top shows to showcase everything I do day in and day out. I am not rushing for titles even though I am more than capable of competing, I am just enjoying the journey, and titles will come, I am sure, and when it does, I will prove I am going to be the best in the UK has seen.
What does it mean to you to have the support of fighters like Muhammad Mokeov? I can only imagine the confidence and self-belief that will give you. Is there any advice Mo has given you in the past or as of late, considering he’s been there and done it all?
I’ve competed in multiple combat sports since very young and met a lot of high-level competitors who I look up to and want to follow in their footsteps. I’ve trained with Mo since I was about 8 when I started wrestling, and his path has inspired me.
For those attending on Feb. 25, what can they expect to see from Lewis Lever?
People can expect high-level, elite all, round mixed martial arts from me with world-class striking, grappling, and submissions with aggressive, controlled pressure.
Leven on his Opponent
You’ll face off against Osian Gil on fight night. I believe he’s a 26-year-old Spanish international. What do you know about your opponent, if anything? Have you had the opportunity to catch any of his previous bouts on the regional scene in Spain? What do you think?
No, as usual, I only concentrate on what I need to do. I don’t believe many will match me, whatever age, at this point.
As mentioned, 2022 was a great year for you. How do you go about topping that this year? Have you set any small or big goals for yourself this year?
This year’s goals are to keep progressing at a good rate and get as much cage time as possible.
Finally, can we finish off with an official fight prediction? How does Lewis Lever get it done on fight night?
I will take any win I can, knock out, TKO or sub. I just promise to perform at a very high level that the fans will enjoy.
