Lewis Nickell is all set to make his amateur debut this Saturday in the Alloa Town Hall in Scotland at Goliath Fight Series 4.
Goliath Fight Series return with another action-packed day of combat sports to cater for fans interested in grappling and stand-up. Promoters Chris Duncan and Steven Harris have put together a two-part event. Goliath Grappling Series by day and Goliath Fight Series by night.
Lewis Nickell will feature on the evening show and will meet Jordan Allan, who’s no stranger to a barnburner fight. Thankfully for Allan, Lewis is excited to throw down and meet in the middle.
We had the pleasure of catching up with the debutant ahead of fight night. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Lewis Nickell
Fight week, you and Lewis are all set to make the walk to the cage for the first time as an amateur. Talk me through the mindset just a week out now.
Hi Lewis, thank you for reaching out and taking an interest. My amateur debut has been a long time coming, and I feel like now is the time to take off the shin guards and get to work inside the octagon on June 24th.
I believe you had two fights at novice prior to your official amateur debut. For the readers that won’t know, can you talk about your background in the sport and your previous experiences competing?
My two novice fights were fantastic for dipping my toes into MMA. I had two tough and game opponents, and God willing, my hard work paid off both times, and I got the win.
You also have built a following, given your great personality and being so open about your life with Tourette’s over the years, inspiring and pushing others to push on and do great things. Haven that backing and support so earlier on, does that fill you with joy/confidence, or does that come with a heap of pressure?
The support that has gathered for me over the years online has been great for my confidence. I don’t feel added pressure from that. I’m fighting someone who’s a trained MMA fighter, there’s all the pressure I would need to feel, and I love that pressure.
Lewis Nickell Talks Finding Martial Arts
Finding mixed martial arts is essentially life-changing for some people, and you hear guys at the top of the sport say it changed the entire trajectory of their life. What has finding MMA meant to you, and what have you gained from just training day-in-day-out?
I feel like MMA has changed my life in the sense that without it, my life isn’t half as structured. It gives me a healthy routine and a healthy mindset.
Saturday night, you’ll meet Jordan Allan. What do you know about him, and how do you feel you match up against one another?
Jordan is a tough opponent. It’s his backyard I’m travelling to, and I’m expecting that we’re going to have a very entertaining fight.
Talking Opposition
Jordan had made the walk twice before and failed to pick up a victory just yet. Have you had the opportunity to watch those two fights back? If so, how do you feel about what he brings to the cage, and are there any strengths and weaknesses you’ve identified?
My coach Arnuad sent me one of Jordan’s fights to show me, my next opponent. He’ll be hungry to pick up the win over me, but God willing, I will return from Scotland with another victory and a statement made.
Finally, leave us with your official fight prediction and how you see the fight unfolding on Saturday night.
My prediction is a fireworks display will be shown in that octagon.
