Englishman Liam Harrison pulled off a comeback for the ages after stopping Muangthai PK. Saenchai in Friday’s ONE Championship event.
Harrison looked in a world of danger when finding himself on the canvas twice in the opening minutes of round one. The sheer toughness and heart on display were jaw-dropping for those in attendance. The ‘Hitman’ was prepared to conquer the adversity head-on by dropping Muangthai three times to leave the victor.
ONE Championship commentator Michael Schiavello described the opening round as the wildest round he had witnessed in his time following combat sports. Five knockdowns in 90-seconds had fans on the edge of their seats.
Harrison left Singapore with a healthy check of $100,000 for picking up a double performance bonus. Not only did Harrison leave with the bonus, but he also earned the next crack at the bantamweight Muay Thai championship.
Despite calling fights for some time, Schiavello was adamant he had never seen anything like Harrison vs Muangthai:
“This is nuts, this is crazy – you crazy, freaky man,” he yelled. “I’ve been commentating kick-boxing and Muay Thai since 1994. I thought I’d seen it all, I’ve never seen anything like that.”
Liam Harrison Leaves Victorious After Crazy Round
Harrison looked seconds away from being finished after being forced to the canvas twice. With Muangthai surging for the stoppage, Harrison bit down on his mouthpiece and stood toe-to-toe in an all or nothing approach:
“I blinked and I was on the floor,” Harrison told Mitch Chilson in his post-fight interview. “I thought, ‘What’s going on here?’ Got up and I was on the floor again. I thought, ‘I’ve got to bite down on my gum shield’. I’m from a rough part of Leeds – we go to war, and that’s what I did.”
“It woke me up,” he added. “I was still trying to work him out. I thought, ‘I’ve got nothing to lose here now, I’ve just got to go for it’. If you injure a lion, they’re more dangerous. If I get hurt, you won’t see me back off. I’ll stand and fight until he goes down or I go down.”
Will Liam Harrison attain the ONE FC Muay Thai bantamweight championship before retiring?
